No. 12 Trojans roll past Iowa Central, 70-42
MASON CITY - The No. 12 NIACC women's basketball team cruised to a 70-42 victory over Iowa Central on Wednesday in an ICCAC contest in the NIACC gym on sophomore night.
Before Wednesday's contest, the Trojans honored sophomores Reggi Spotts, Grace Berding and Kelsey McDonough.
NIACC put the wraps on a 25-3 overall regular season record and were 19-3 in the ICCAC. The Trojans will host a NJCAA Region 11-B tournament game at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
On Wednesday, freshman Ciara Seifert led the Trojans with 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. It was Seifert's 14th double/double of the season.
Spotts also had a double/double for the Trojans with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Trojans' Peyton Meincke scored 14 points with five rebounds, two blocks and one steal.
NIACC freshman Machaela Trask scored six points with three rebounds and two steals.
NIACC was a perfect 10 of 10 from the free-throw line in Wednesday's game against the Tritons. It was the first time the Trojans have been perfect at the charity stripe with at least 10 attempts since they were 11 of 11 in a 77-71 loss to Kirkwood on Jan. 19, 2019.
NIACC, which trailed 15-13 after the first quarter, outscored the Tritons 16-2 in the second quarter to take a 29-17 lead at the half. NIACC outscored the Trojans 15-11 in the third quarter and 26-14 in the fourth quarter.
The 25 wins by the Trojans is tied for the most in the Brad Vaught era. The Trojans were 25-7 in the 2024-25 season when they claimed the NJCAA Region 11-B championship.
