No. 12 Trojans stop Lakers, 64-53

- Trojans make 30 free throws - most since 2020
ESTHERVILLE - The No. 12 NIACC women's basketball team topped Iowa Lakes 64-53 Wednesday night in an ICCAC contest.
The game was tied 15-15 after the first quarter and the Lakers took a 32-31 lead at the half. The Lakers increased their lead to 43-41 after three quarters.
But the Trojans outscored the Lakers 23-10 in the final 10 minutes to claim the 11--point road victory.
NIACC improved its overall record to 23-3 and are 17-3 in the ICCAC. The Trojans sit in second place in the ICCAC standings, a game behind No. 17 Kirkwood, which is 24-3 overall and 18-2 in league play.
The Trojans hold a two-game lead over Iowa Lakes for the second seed in the upcoming regional tournament with two games remaining. Iowa Lakes (19-8 overall) is 15-5 in league play.
NIACC wraps up its regular season at Southwestern CC on Saturday and at home against Iowa Central on Feb. 25.
The 23 wins is tied for the second most in the Brad Vaught era. The most wins in the Vaught era is 25 when the Trojans were 25-7 in the 2024-25 season.
In Wednesday's win over the Lakers, sophomore guard Reggi Spotts scored 20 points, including two 3-point goals, with eight rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.
Spotts now has 916 career points, which ranks sixth on the school's career scoring list. Spotts has 107 career 3-point goals, which is tied for 10th on the school's career list and 170 steals, which is tied for eighth on the school's career list.
Also for the Trojans, freshman forward Ciara Seifert scored 13 points with seven rebounds and two steals. Freshman guard Zaria Falls scored 11 points with six rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Seifert has 289 rebounds this season, which is eighth on the school's all-time single season list.
NIACC was 30 of 37 from the free throw line. Spotts was a perfect 8 of 8 and Seifert was 7 of 8. The 30 made free throws by the Trojans was the most in a game since they were 30 of 38 against Iowa Lakes on Feb. 5, 2020.
Iowa Lakes was led by Baakir Christian with 18 points. Zoey Wooten was next in line for the Lakers with 12 points.
