Vaught collects 100th win
MASON CITY - Head coach Brad Vaught collected his 100th win as the NIACC women's basketball coach on Saturday with a 65-43 win over Marshalltown CC in the ICCAC opener for both teams in the NIACC gym.
Vaught, who is in his sixth seaosn, improved his NIACC record to 100-52.
In Saturday's win, the No. 12 Trojans were led by freshman Zaria Falls with a career-best 17 points. Falls also had five rebounds, four assists, two steals and one blocked shot.
NIACC's Ciara Seifert and Reggi Spotts both scored 14 points.
Seifert led the Trojans with 20 rebounds, which is tied for fourth on the school's all-time single-game rebounding list. The last time a NIACC player collected 20 rebounds in a contest was Madison Hillman on Feb. 3, 2024.
The NIACC single-game record for rebounds in a game is 27 by Sharlene Langhoff against the University of Northern Iowa in the 1978-79 season.
Spotts had six rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Seifert also had six steals, four assists and one blocked shot.
NIACC, which is 7-0 for the first time since the 2019-20 season, outscored the Tigers in each of the four quarters. The Trojans led 15-6 after the first quarter and outscored the Tigers 15-14, 17-9 and 18-14 in the next three quarters.
Marshalltown CC (3-5 overall) was led by Jaeda Turner with 19 points. The Tigers also received 16 points from Shenell Stewart.
NIACC returns to action Tuesday in an ICCAC contest at Southeastern CC. Game time in West Burlington is set for 5:30 p.m.
