No. 13 Trojans knock off No. 5 Kirkwood in OT
CEDAR RAPIDS - The No. 13 NIACC women's basketball team topped No. 5 Kirkwood 71-66 in overtime Saturday afternoon in an ICCAC contest.
NIACC snapped a 13-game losing streak to the tradition-rich Eagles. It was the Trojans' first win at Kirkwood since winning 63-60 on Jan. 29, 2020.
The win by the Trojans at Kirkwood snapped the Eagles' 85-game home court winning streak. The last loss at home by the Eagles was a 73-68 loss to Iowa Western on March 23, 2021.
After Kirkwood's loss to Iowa Western in the 2021 season, the Eagles closed the season with four straight wins.
After that, the Eagles were 20-0 at home in 2021-22, 16-0 at home in 2022-23, 20-0 in 2023-24, 17-0 in 2024-25 and they had won their first eight home games in 2025-26.
In Saturday's win over Kirkwood, sophomore Reggi Spotts matched her career high with 29 points and freshman Zaria Falls scored 15 points.
The game was tied 60-60 at the end of regulation and the Trojans outscored the Eagles 11-6 in the five-minute extra session to improve their overall record to 18-2 and 12-2 in the ICCAC.
The Trojans, who have not lost in the 2026 calendar year, have won eight straight games heading into Wednesday's home contest against Southeastern CC.
Also for the Trojans on Saturday, freshman Peyton Meincke scored nine points with six rebounds and three steals and freshman Ciara Seifert scored seven points.
Seifert led the Trojans with 12 rebounds and also dished out a team-high four assists. Spotts added six rebounds to go with her 29 points.
NIACC freshman Tillie Smith had five rebounds and four assists.
Kirkwood (17-3, 11-2) was led by Olivia Wren with 13 points. Kennedy Blakely scored 12 points and Claire Hudson scored 11 points.
