No. 14 Trojans edge No. 17 Bears, 62-58
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's basketball team edged DMACC 62-58 in a battle of rated teams Wednesday night in the NIACC gym.
The No. 14 Trojans (13-2 overall, 7-2 in ICCAC) received 18 points from sophomore Reggi Spotts, 16 points from freshman Ciara Seifert and 11 points from freshman Zaria Falls in the four-point win over the 17th-ranked Bears.
Seifert scored a basket with 7.4 seconds remaining on assist from Falls to give the Trojans a 60-58 lead. DMACC had a chance to tie the contest in the final seconds but could not convert.
Spotts added two free throws to give the Trojans the four-point win.
Spotts scored all 18 of her points in the second half. Spotts also had eight rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Seifert also had 11 rebounds for her seventh double/double of the season. Falls had four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
NIACC led 23-17 after the first quarter, but the Bears outscored the Trojans 11-4 in the second quarter to take a 28-27 lead at the half.
NIACC outscored DMACC 24-18 in the third quarter.
DMACC (13-3, 5-3) was led by Breeley Clayburg with 13 points. Whitney Jensen scored 11 points for the Bears.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at home against Southwestern CC in an ICCAC contest. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 1 p.m.
