NIACC's Spotts selected as ICCAC female athlete of year
- Spotts led Trojans to the 2026 NJCAA Division II national tournament
- Spotts was a first-team NJCAA Division II all-American
- She's first NIACC student-athlete to win award since Mendez in 2019-20
MASON CITY - NIACC sophomore women's basketball player Reggi Spotts has been selected as the 2025-26 ICCAC female athlete of the year.
Other finalists for the prestigious award were Iowa Central's Talya Sampson (volleyball), Iowa Lakes' Keyahna Phillips (wrestling) and Kirkwood's Shannon Finn (softball).
Spotts, who is from Nora Springs and prepped at Mason City High, is the second NIACC female student-athlete to win the ICCAC athlete of the year award. NIACC's Autam Mendez (women's basketball) won the award in 2019-20.
The ICCAC started the award in 2017-18.
"Reggi is one of the best players to ever play at NIACC," NIACC women's basketball coach Brad Vaught said of Spotts. "What makes it even more special is she is an amazing person, too.
"Spotts clearly leaves a legacy at NIACC, making a positive difference that will be felt after she has moved on."
Spotts averaged 18.8 points per game and scored 600 total points, seventh most in the NJCAA. She helped lead the Trojans to back-to-back NJCAA Region 11-B championships and to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division II national tournament, finishing the season 28-4.
Spotts was named the ICCAC Player of the Year this past season and was a first-team NJCAA Division II all-American.
In the classroom, Spotts was a first-team ICCAC academic all-region selection four times.
Beyond the court or classroom, Spotts is an incredible contributor to the local community.
She helps in a variety of ways on campus, including serving as a resident assistant and participating in the NIACC Lead Academy. She also contributes her time to helping with a multitude of church events to help others.
Spotts has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Iowa State next season.
"Reggi is an outstanding person from a great family who really represents the Iowa State way," Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly said. "She has had success in everything she has done both on and off the court."
